What is Young Life?

Community Youth Worker Programme

Secondary Schools Youth Work
As part of the two handed approach, Young Life is committed to serving at local Colleges to "fill the gaps" in each school system. Our intent is to assist local schools in fulfilling their goals and values by providing Community Youth Workers in areas where caring adults are needed.

In schools Young Life youth workers are involved in many aspects of school life; working alongside staff and walking with students. Our leaders are involved in areas such as sports coaching, special interest group mentoring, peer support programmes, lunch time events and informal counselling.

Young Life youth workers are currently involved with Pakuranga College, Botany College and Macleans College in Auckland and Kaiapoi High School in Christchurch.

Young Life youth workers are regularly present on campus during lunch and interval times, talking with students and involving themselves in the student's activities. This "contact work" builds trust and familiarity with the students in their environment. Over time students find trust and consistency in our youth workers: two vital elements of an adult mentor.
